Know how you work

The MILS inventory provides insight into the individual work preferences of a person’s brain. Within a team, you use the MILS inventory to improve collaboration and communication. MILS is a valuable addition to any interdisciplinary team because it teaches people to recognize each other’s work preferences and it provides teams with practical tools to improve mutual cooperation.

What is the MILS inventory?

The MILS inventory has been developed to find out what learning preferences people have and how these can be translated into effective learning strategies. The way we work on a cognitive and physical level is partly due to the way we learn.

Bureau van Bodegom has made a translation from learning preferences to work preferences. Cognitively, these work preferences are the ways in which information is received and processed by a person. The three work preferences are textual, auditory and visual. In addition, there are preferences that affect this information processing, such as the need for structure, the need for movement and the need for collaboration.

If we know the most relaxed way information reaches our brain, then we are able to optimize our communication and way of working together.

When you both know how the other person likes to receive information and how you yourself best receive information, then you understand each other better. The MILS work preferences inventory has been developed to give people insight into preferences regarding the processing of information.

Six different types of work preferences can be distinguished. There are three work preferences for information processing: textual, auditory and visual. In addition, there are three preferences that affect this information processing: the need for structure, the need for movement and the need for collaboration.
Individual team member preferences can affect the overall team result.

Effective collaboration and communication

If we know the most relaxed way information reaches our brain, then we are able to optimize our communication and way of working together.

When you both know how the other person likes to receive information and how you yourself best receive information, then you understand each other better. The MILS work preferences inventory has therefore been developed to give people insight into their individual preferences and those of team members in order to positively influence the overall team result.

The MILS inventory is also suitable for team building and improving interdisciplinary collaboration and communication throughout the organization.

Insight into your own work preferences and those of others

Who is MILS for Business right for?

MILS for Business was developed for teams that want to learn to collaborate better and employees who want to communicate more effectively with their colleagues. By examining the work preferences per person, you ensure that everyone becomes aware of their own preferences for processing information. In a group, you also learn what the preferences of others are and how to deal with them in a practical way in communication and collaboration. It is enlightening and has immediate results.

Do you have a team with big differences between the members? This can make collaboration quite complicated. In that case, it is nice to know and accept each other’s work preferences. You can learn how to work together better based on the knowledge of everyone’s work preferences. The investment in the MILS inventory pays for itself in the very short term, sometimes on the day itself, because team members immediately understand each other better. “Oh, that’s why I should email you rather than call! Now I understand you!”
